Pure Prairie League

Country-rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Pure Prairie League I (1971 - 1972)

  • George Ed Powell - guitar/vocals
  • Jim Lanham - bass/vocals
  • John David Call - steel guitar
  • Jim "Koffe" Caughlan - drums
Album:
  1. "Pure Prairie League" (1972) - Great debut album with some of the best country-rock you'll ever hear.  Wonderful instrumentation with very crisp guitar and great harmonies...this album is WAY TOO SHORT!  You need this.  Standouts are "Tears", "Take It Before You Go", and "Harmony Song", but there's not a weak cut on the album.  Reissued in 1997 on CD combined with their fourth album (see Compilations).

Pure Prairie League II (1972 - 1975)
  • Craig Lee Fuller - guitar/bass/vocals
  • George Ed Powell - guitar/vocals
  • William Frank (aka, Billy) Hinds - drums
Album:
  1. "Bustin' Out" (1972) - Single: "Falling In and Out of Love / Amie" - Without question one of the greatest country-rock albums ever made, by anybody.  Like their first album, this album is too short.  Favorite cuts are "Jazzman", "Angel No. 9", "Early Morning Riser", "Falling In and Out of Love", "Amie", and "Boulder Skies", but (like their 1st album) there is no fluff on here.  After this album, Craig Lee Fuller left and the band was never the same.  Buy this...you won't regret it.
Craig Lee Fuller forms American Flyer (with Steve Katz, formerly of Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Eric Kaz, formerly of The Blues Magoos), later forms Fuller and Kaz (with Eric Kaz, formerly of The Blues Magoos), and later joins Little Feat.
